When we went as a team to spend the day on Paleokastritsa beach around 16:00, right after finishing work, we were surprised to find the beach completely packed in first week of May. Every sunbed was taken, families were still swimming, and tour boats kept dropping off groups of visitors. Mr. Yorgos, a friendly local tourist shop owner who has seen countless busy afternoons, laughed when we asked him if this was normal. He told us, “Here, my friends, the beach is almost busy all day long. Maybe you better come for a night swim!” Of course, he was joking, but his good humor reminded us how popular this place really is – and how important it is to arrive early if you want the best spot by the sea.

Tips for Visiting Paleokastritsa

Because Paleokastritsa is so famous, it does get crowded in the peak summer months. If you want a quieter experience, plan to arrive early in the morning before the crowds roll in, or consider visiting later in the evening for a peaceful sunset swim. The months of May, June, and September are also ideal, offering warm water and fewer tourists.

Facilities at Paleokastritsa are excellent. You’ll find sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, and plenty of tavernas serving fresh seafood and local specialties. Parking can be a challenge during peak hours, so taking the bus or arriving by scooter is often a smarter choice.
