As a local, I can tell you we don’t get surprised easily… but this one feels special.
This spring, Corfu is expected to host filming for a big new Hollywood production,
bringing some seriously famous faces to the island.

Filming is planned for March through May, with locations in Corfu and Athens.
The project is linked to Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle (the filmmaker behind La La Land).
Why Corfu?
The story is said to be set around a prison environment, and Corfu has a unique real-life backdrop for that: our historic prison complex, with a striking design inspired by the ideas of philosopher and legal thinker Jeremy Bentham—built so the central area can “see” the wings around it. It’s dramatic, symbolic, and very cinematic.

If not, here’s the simple version: they’ve long been considered a high-security facility in Greece, and over the years they’ve held people convicted of serious crimes.
That said, it’s not something visitors need to worry about—today it’s mainly part of Corfu’s real history and architecture,and that “real atmosphere” is exactly why filmmakers love using places like this.
Either way, it’s exciting to see Corfu getting this kind of international spotlight again.
