🌊 A Relaxed Seaside Base Close to Corfu Town

Dassia sits on Corfu’s east coast, just north of the capital. It is close to the airport, Corfu Town, beaches, restaurants, and several popular resorts. This makes it one of the island’s most useful bases.

It is an area that quietly does many things right. It offers space, easy access, and a relaxed seaside rhythm, while still keeping you close to almost everything. For us, Dassia is not just another resort area. It is a place tied to real experience, daily routines, and many seasons spent working and living nearby.

For me, Dassia is also personal. I began my tourism career here at the well-known Elea Beach Hotel. The hotel still operates today. Even if you are not staying there, you can visit its seaside restaurant for lunch or a drink. It still reminds me of the older and calmer style of Corfiot hospitality.

✨ Is Dassia, Corfu Worth Visiting?

Yes, especially if location matters to you. Dassia is central, easy to reach, and quieter than resorts known mainly for nightlife. It has no traditional village square or harbour. However, it works very well as a holiday base.

Mornings are usually calm. Afternoons centre on the beach. Evenings are social without always feeling too loud. Dassia suits couples, families, older travellers, and visitors who want to explore Corfu by car or bus.

Everything feels easy and well-balanced. This is why many people choose Dassia as their base and explore the island from there.

🚗 How to Get from Corfu Airport to Dassia

Dassia is about 13–14 km from Corfu Airport. The drive usually takes around 20–30 minutes. Allow more time during busy summer hours.

🗺️ Directions from Corfu Airport to Dassia

There is no single direct public bus for the full airport route. Take the airport bus to Corfu Town, then change to Blue Bus Line 7 for Dassia. Check the latest times before travelling. You can also read our guide to getting around Corfu.

🏖️ Dassia Beach: Calm Water & Plenty to Do

Dassia Beach is long but often quite narrow. The shore has a mix of sand, fine shingle, and small pebbles. Beach shoes can be useful. The water is usually clear, calm, and shallow near the shore. Even during the peak season, the beach rarely feels tight or overcrowded. You will find organised sections with sunbeds, food, drinks, and water sports. Seasonal activities may include paddleboarding, kayaking, jet skiing, and parasailing. The water sports are organised along the beach without dominating the atmosphere. Prices and opening times can change, so ask before booking.

The Two Ikos Resorts & the Old Club Med

Two large Ikos all-inclusive resorts stand on opposite sides of Dassia Bay. Together, they offer around 800 rooms, suites, villas, and bungalows. Their buildings are large, but the trees and gardens help them fit into the coast.

Facing the sea, one Ikos resort stands on the left side of the beach and the other on the right. Together, they are spread across two main buildings and a dedicated bungalow area. The newer resort is on the right side of the beach.

The newer Ikos Odisia was developed on the site linked with the old Club Med Corfu. Club Med arrived in Dassia during the early 1950s and was one of the first pioneering all-inclusive resorts in Greece. It played an important part in the start of mass tourism in Corfu. Guests stayed in simple beach huts with straw roofs and spent much of the day outdoors, close to nature.

I was lucky enough to visit the old Club Med myself. I still remember some unforgettable nights there and the excellent shows.

⛵ Boat Trips from Dassia

Seasonal boat trips and small-boat rentals are available along this coast. They can take you to quiet bays and swimming places that are harder to reach by road. It is a relaxed way to experience the east coast from the water, especially on calm days. A short trip works well if you do not want to spend a full day at sea. Dassia’s location is one of its biggest strengths:

• Corfu Town: about 12 km; usually 20–30 minutes by car.
• Corfu Airport: about 13–14 km; usually 20–30 minutes.
• Gouvia: about 3 km; around 5–10 minutes.
• Kontokali: about 5 km; around 10 minutes.
• Ipsos: about 4 km; around 8–10 minutes.
• Barbati: about 8 km; around 15–20 minutes.
• Paleokastritsa: about 18 km; around 30–40 minutes.

Driving times can be longer in July and August. Blue Bus Line 7 connects Dassia with Corfu Town, Gouvia, and Ipsos, with frequent services throughout the day during the tourist season. A car gives you more freedom for mountain villages and remote beaches.

🍽️ Where We Eat in Dassia

For fresh fish and reliable food, we recommend La Plaz by the sea. Ask for Kostas, the manager and a close friend of mine. Tell him that Billy from EnjoyCorfu sent you. It is nothing formal. It simply lets him know to take good care of you.

One local note: do not sit down wearing only swimwear or without a shirt. Kostas does not like it, and it does not suit the restaurant. Put on a shirt or beach cover before taking your table.

🌙 Evening Drinks & Music

Dassia is relaxed in the evening, but it also has one famous nightlife spot. Edem Beach Club has operated since 1988. It is known for house music and international DJs. It begins as a seaside place for drinks and becomes livelier later at night.

That makes Edem more than 37 years old in the 2026 season. Its atmosphere can be lively while still feeling balanced.

🚙 Nearby Places for a Different Atmosphere

Ipsos has more restaurants, bars, and late-night activity. However, August can be very loud and crowded with young visitors, many of them from Italy. The atmosphere can become excessive, so it may not suit anyone looking for a quiet evening.

Barbati is a calmer choice, with clear water and attractive coastal views. Gouvia offers a marina, more dining options, and easy access to Corfu Town. 🏰 A Nearby Landmark: Castello Villa Mimpeli

A short drive from Dassia stands Castello Villa Mimpeli, also known as Castello Bibelli. The estate took its final Gothic form in 1905 under Italian Baron Luca Mimbelli. An older defensive tower linked to the noble Polyla family once stood on the site.

The mansion later welcomed barons, princes, kings, and emperors. During World War II, the family was expelled from Greece and the property was seized. From 1958 to 1981, it operated as the famous Castello Hotel. Today, the building remains closed inside a 75-acre wooded park, quiet and untouched. You may see it from outside, but do not enter private or closed areas.

Dassia has large beachfront resorts, smaller hotels, family-run properties, apartments, studios, and villas. Sea-view rooms are common. Apartments are practical for longer stays.

The choice is varied and practical. Many visitors choose Dassia because it offers comfort without isolation.

Before booking, check the exact distance from the beach. Some properties use “Dassia” for a wider area and may be farther from the sea than expected. Also check road noise, steps, parking, and winter opening dates.

⚖️ Dassia vs Gouvia: Which One Is Better?

My view: Choose Dassia if the beach is more important. Choose Gouvia if you prefer a marina setting and more evening choices.
