Short on Time? My Top Beach Recommendation

If you only have time for one beach, my personal favourite is Voutoumi Beach in Antipaxos. The colour of the water is unreal, almost like a swimming pool, and the whole place feels like a small paradise. For me, it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Ionian Islands.

Table of Contents

Paxos Beaches Map

Paxos is a small island, but the beaches are spread around different sides of the island. The east coast is usually easier to reach by road and has calmer waters. The west coast is wilder, more dramatic, and often better reached by boat or after a walk.

Best Time to Visit Paxos Beaches

The best months for swimming in Paxos are usually from June to September. July and August are the busiest months, but the sea is warm and the island feels very alive. If you prefer fewer people, June and September are excellent choices.

For beaches like Erimitis and Avlaki, I would avoid very windy days, because the west coast can be more exposed. For calm swimming, the east coast and Antipaxos are usually easier options.

West Coast Beaches of Paxos

Erimitis Beach

Erimitis is one of the most impressive beaches in Paxos. It is located on the west coast and is famous for its dramatic cliffs, white pebbles, and deep blue water. The scenery here is wild and very different from the calmer beaches on the east side of the island.

The beach was created after a cliff collapse, and this gives it a very special atmosphere. It feels more remote and natural, so it is perfect if you want something more adventurous.

Good to know: Access can be difficult, so wear proper shoes and avoid going down if the path is not safe. Many visitors prefer to see Erimitis by boat.

Avlaki Beach

Avlaki is another beautiful west coast beach, with clear water and a peaceful feeling. It is not the easiest beach to reach, but that is part of its charm. If you like quiet places and natural scenery, Avlaki is worth adding to your list.

The beach has pebbles, so sea shoes are useful. There are no big facilities here, so bring water, snacks, and everything you need.

Katsionisi Beach

Katsionisi is a small and quiet beach, ideal for visitors who enjoy simple, natural places away from the crowds. It is not the most famous beach on Paxos, but that makes it feel more personal and relaxed.

This is the kind of beach where you go to swim, sit quietly, and enjoy the colour of the Ionian Sea without too much noise around you.

East Coast Beaches of Paxos

Kipiadi Beach

Kipiadi is one of the largest beaches in Paxos and one of the best options if you want space. The water is clear, the beach is pebbly, and the landscape is very peaceful.

It is a great beach for swimming, relaxing, and enjoying the natural side of Paxos. Because it is not a sandy beach, sea shoes will make your visit more comfortable.

Khaki Lagkada Beach

Khaki Lagkada is a lovely beach with turquoise water and a calm atmosphere. It is a good choice if you want somewhere beautiful but not too complicated to visit.

Kaki Lagada Beach paxos

The beach is pebbly, like many beaches in Paxos, but the water is usually very inviting. It is a nice stop if you are exploring the east coast by car or scooter.

Kamini Beach

Kamini is a small beach with a peaceful local feeling. It is not the kind of beach with loud music or many facilities, but that is exactly why some visitors like it.

Come here for a quiet swim and simple relaxation. Bring your own beach essentials, especially if you plan to stay for more than a quick dip.

Giannas Beach

Giannas Beach is close to Gaios, which makes it a convenient option if you are staying near the main town or arriving by ferry. It is not the most hidden beach, but it is easy and practical.

If you want a quick swim without travelling far, Giannas is a good choice. It is also useful if you have limited time on the island.

Aftiá Gaïdárou Beach

Aftiá Gaïdárou is one of those places that feels quiet and simple, with clear water and a natural setting. It is not as famous as the big names, but it can be a nice stop for people who like less commercial beaches.

As with many Paxos beaches, do not expect luxury facilities. The beauty here is the sea, the calm atmosphere, and the feeling of being close to nature.

Balos Beach

Balos Beach in Paxos is a peaceful swimming spot with clear Ionian water. It is not the same as the famous Balos in Crete, so do not confuse the two.

This beach is better for visitors who enjoy quiet places and do not need organised sunbeds or beach bars. Bring water and sea shoes.

Mongonissi Beach

Mongonissi is one of the most family-friendly beaches in Paxos. The water is usually calm, and the area feels more protected than many other beaches around the island.

It is a good choice if you are travelling with children or if you want an easier beach day. You may also find tavernas and facilities nearby, depending on the season.

Plakes Beach

Plakes is a small beach near Gaios, making it useful if you are staying in the capital or visiting Paxos just for the day. It is a simple beach with clear water and easy access.

It may not be the most dramatic beach on the island, but it is very convenient and pleasant for a quick swim.

Beaches Near Lakka

Harami Beach

Harami Beach is one of the best-known beaches near Lakka. It has beautiful clear water and a relaxed atmosphere, making it a lovely place to spend a few hours.

Harami Beach & Lakka Bay

Because it is close to Lakka, it is easy to combine a swim here with lunch, coffee, or a walk around the village. It is a good option for visitors who do not want to travel too far.

Kanoni Beach

Kanoni Beach is another lovely beach near Lakka. It is smaller and has that classic Paxos feeling: clear water, pebbles, and green scenery around you.

If you are staying in Lakka, Kanoni is a very easy beach to visit. It is ideal for a morning swim before the day becomes too hot.

Orkos Beach

Orkos Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on Paxos, with amazing water and a more natural feeling. It is close to Lakka but feels quieter and more hidden than the beaches inside the village area.

The path to Orkos can require a bit of walking, so comfortable shoes are useful. Once you arrive, the colour of the sea makes the effort worth it.

Manadendri Beach

Manadendri is a popular beach with clear water and a more organised feeling compared to some of the hidden coves. It is a good option if you want a beautiful beach but still prefer some comfort nearby.

It can get busier in high season, but it remains one of the beaches many visitors enjoy around Lakka.

Antipaxos Beaches

Voutoumi Beach

Voutoumi Beach is my favourite beach in Paxos and Antipaxos. The first thing you notice is the colour of the water. It is bright, clear, and almost tropical. Photos are beautiful, but honestly, the real place is even better.

Voutoumi is the beach I would recommend first to anyone visiting Paxos, especially if they can take a boat trip to Antipaxos. The water is perfect for swimming, and the scenery is unforgettable.

If you want that classic Ionian “wow” moment, this is the place.

Vrika Beach

Vrika is another famous beach on Antipaxos, and it is also very beautiful. It has lighter sand and shallow turquoise water, making it one of the most popular stops for boat trips.

Vrika in Antipaxos

Because many boats arrive here in summer, it can become busy during the middle of the day. If you can visit early, the experience is much better.

Mesovrika Beach

Mesovrika is located between Vrika and Voutoumi and is a quieter option compared to the two famous beaches. It has clear water and a more peaceful atmosphere.

If you are exploring Antipaxos by boat, Mesovrika is definitely worth a stop, especially if you want to escape the busiest beach areas.

Where I Had Good Meals in Paxos

A beach day in Paxos is even better when you combine it with good food. These are some places where I personally had good meals or enjoyed the atmosphere.

Visalo Restaurant

Visalo Restaurant is one of the places I enjoyed in Paxos. It has a nice setting and is a good option if you want a proper meal after exploring the island.

Volcano Bar Restaurant

Volcano Bar Restaurant is another place where I had a good experience. It is a nice choice for food or drinks, especially if you want something relaxed after the beach.

Taverna Nassos in Loggos

Taverna Nassos in Loggos is also very good. Loggos itself is a lovely village, so it is worth visiting even just for a walk, a meal, and a slower evening by the sea.

Fish Restaurant Klis

I also really liked Fish Restaurant Klis. One thing I appreciated is that they allowed dogs, which is always a big plus for travellers with pets. The food was good, and the atmosphere felt friendly.

Bournaous in Magazia

cafe paxos bournaos

Bournaous in Magazia is a small, simple café shop, but that is exactly why I liked it. It feels authentic, local, and not overdone. Sometimes the simplest places are the ones you remember most.

Useful Beach Tips for Paxos

  • Bring sea shoes: Most Paxos beaches have pebbles, not sand.
  • Take water with you: Some beaches have no facilities.
  • Check the wind: West coast beaches can be rough on windy days.
  • Rent a boat if possible: Some of the best beaches are easier by sea.
  • Go early in summer: July and August can be busy, especially Antipaxos.
  • Do not leave rubbish: Paxos is small and beautiful, so keep it clean.

My Final Thoughts

Paxos is one of those islands that may look small on the map, but it gives you so many beautiful places to discover. The beaches are not always sandy or organised, but the water is incredible, the scenery is peaceful, and the island has a special charm.

If you want easy access, explore the east coast and the beaches around Lakka. If you want something more dramatic, visit the west coast. And if you want the most unforgettable swimming experience, take a boat to Antipaxos.

For me, Voutoumi Beach is the beach I would choose again and again. It has that magical Ionian blue that stays in your mind long after you leave.
