When we talk about Arillas, we’re talking about one of those places in northwest Corfu that feels easy from the first day. A long sandy bay, olive trees behind it, low hills around it, and a sea that stays calm and friendly most of the time.

Arillas is around 35 km from Corfu Town and the airport. In normal conditions it’s about 50–60 minutes by car, depending on traffic and the time of day. The last part of the drive is quiet countryside, and then suddenly you see the bay open up.

✨ Why We Like Arillas

Arillas works because it doesn’t try too hard. Days are slow, the beach is wide, the water is clean, and evenings feel social but not loud. You’ll see the same faces walking the beachfront lane at sunset, families finishing dinner, and people just enjoying the calm rhythm.

And yes—the sunset in Arillas is the real thing. When the light drops, the bay turns gold, and you can often see the Diapontia Islands on the horizon when the air is clear.

🌊 Arillas Beach: Clean Water & Shallow Swimming

The best part of Arillas beach is how family-friendly it is. The sea here is usually super clean and very shallow for a long distance, which makes it ideal for children and relaxed swimming. You can walk in slowly, take your time, and not feel rushed by waves.

  • Great for families with young kids (shallow entry + calm water on many days).
  • Easy beach days: long walks on the sand, slow swims, no drama.
  • You’ll find sunbeds, umbrellas, and in summer usually pedalos / SUP / canoes.

Local note: On the far right end of the beach (all the way to the end), it’s common to see people swimming nude. It’s not official with signs, but in practice it’s an unofficial nudist area. If you’re with kids and prefer to avoid it, just stay more central on the beach.

In high season, we always prefer swimming early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Midday can be hot, but mornings and late hours feel perfect—especially when you want the beach to feel wide and quiet.

  • Sunset: grab a drink, sit near the sea, and let the day end properly.
  • Short trips: Arillas is a great base for exploring the whole northwest side.

☕ Must-Visit Spot: Akrotiri Café (Cape Between Arillas & Agios Stefanos)

If you do one “local” stop while you’re here, make it Akrotiri Café, sitting on the cape between Arillas and Agios Stefanos Avliotes. The views up there are special—especially with a coffee or a cold drink when the wind is gentle.

One thing we love about Arillas is that you’re close to some of the most character-filled corners of Corfu’s northwest. Here are a few places that are worth your time:

  • Agios Georgios (Pagon) Beach — another beautiful, long beach nearby, great for an easy day by the sea.
  • Cape Drastis — dramatic cliffs and views (best with calm weather and good shoes).
  • Avliotes — one of the biggest villages in the area that still feels very traditional.
  • Peroulades — another large, traditional village, famous for its west-coast scenery nearby.

Hidden beach tip: If you want a small, quieter beach that many visitors miss, open Google Maps and search for “Katevasidi Beach” (between Agios Stefanos Avlioton and Sidari). It’s not a big organized beach—more of a low-key, local-style spot—so go prepared and keep it clean.
