6Zagori Stone Houses

Zagori, Greece

Hidden among the mountains of Epirus, the villages of Zagori are famous for their traditional stone houses built from local slate and limestone. These homes, together with cobbled streets, stone bridges, and forested slopes, create one of the most atmospheric mountain landscapes in Greece.

Zagori is also a wonderful destination in winter, when many villages can receive heavy snowfall and look like scenes from an old mountain postcard. In summer, the area stays much cooler than the Greek islands or coastal towns, thanks to its high altitude and fresh mountain air.

Worth visiting nearby: Vikos Gorge, Papingo Villages, Voidomatis River, Monodendri, Kokkoris Bridge, and the Stone Forest.
