Corfu International Airport “Ioannis Kapodistrias” continues to demonstrate its growing importance in Greece’s tourism and aviation sectors. During the two-day period of June 19–20, 2026, the airport handled an impressive 191 aircraft movements, making it the busiest period recorded so far this tourist season.

The total includes scheduled services, charter flights, and private aviation traffic. The high volume reflects the strong demand for Corfu as one of the Mediterranean’s most popular holiday destinations during the summer months.

Major Markets Driving Corfu’s Air Traffic

The majority of flights during this period connected Corfu with key European markets, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, France, Austria, the Netherlands, and Israel. Domestic connections with Athens also remained among the airport’s busiest and most important routes.

These strong international links continue to support Corfu’s tourism industry, bringing thousands of visitors to the island every week.

Airlines Operating the Highest Number of Flights

Several major airlines contributed significantly to the airport’s busy schedule. Among the carriers operating the largest number of services were Aegean Airlines, Sky Express, Ryanair, easyJet, Condor, TUI, Jet2, Transavia, Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, and Smartwings.

Aircraft commonly seen at Corfu Airport include ATR turboprops as well as Airbus A319, A320, A321 and Boeing 737 models.

2026 Set to Become Another Record-Breaking Year

According to aviation data, passenger traffic during the first months of 2026 has already exceeded the corresponding figures recorded in 2025. This is particularly significant given that 2025 was itself a record year for passenger arrivals and departures at Corfu Airport.

The continuing increase in visitor numbers suggests that 2026 could establish a new all-time record for the island’s air traffic and tourism sector.

Airport Infrastructure Operating Near Capacity

On several days each week, operational activity at the airport reaches exceptionally high levels. During peak periods, as many as 15 aircraft can be parked simultaneously on the apron, placing considerable pressure on available parking positions and ground operations.

Combined with strong passenger load factors across most routes, the result is a substantial increase in the number of travelers passing through the airport every day.

More Than 1,200 Weekly Flights from 31 Countries

Corfu Airport currently handles more than 1,200 arrivals and departures every week, connecting the island with approximately 125 airports across 31 countries.

The busiest routes remain Athens–Corfu and London Gatwick–Corfu, both of which operate with high frequency throughout the tourist season.

Thanks to these impressive figures, Corfu International Airport now ranks as the fifth busiest airport in Greece in terms of aircraft movements, highlighting the island’s growing appeal among international travelers and reinforcing its position as one of the country’s leading tourism destinations.

Corfu Attracts Increasing Numbers of VIP Travelers

Beyond its busy commercial flight schedule, Corfu is also welcoming a growing number of private and VIP aircraft throughout the summer season. Luxury travelers, business executives, celebrities, and high-net-worth visitors are increasingly choosing the island as a preferred Mediterranean destination.
