General Information About Corfu

Corfu is the greenest of Greece’s Ionian Islands, combining Venetian-influenced architecture, mountain villages, olive-covered countryside and a coastline filled with sandy beaches, pebbled coves and sheltered bays.

The island has around 100,000 permanent residents, with much of the population concentrated around Corfu Town and the central part of the island.

Visitors arrive through Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport, located only a few kilometres from Corfu Town, or by ferry from mainland Greece and Italy.

Public buses connect Corfu Town with many popular resorts, including Gouvia, Paleokastritsa, Sidari and Kavos. However, renting a car is useful if you want to explore mountain villages, remote beaches and quieter parts of the island.
