As someone who lives near Agios Georgios Pagon, I have seen firsthand how deceptive this beautiful beach can be.
Although much of the bay appears calm, certain areas become deep surprisingly quickly. Strong underwater currents occasionally develop, especially when weather conditions change on the western side of Corfu.
Cold underwater streams can also create sudden temperature changes that catch swimmers off guard. The beach remains one of my favorite places in Corfu, but it is also one of the few beaches where I always advise visitors to stay aware of their surroundings and avoid swimming too far from shore.
