Upcoming Corfu Festivals – August 2026
15 August – Assumption of the Virgin Mary
The Assumption of the Virgin Mary is one of the most important religious celebrations of the Greek summer and is marked by services and festivals in many parts of Corfu.
One of the best-known celebrations takes place in Kassiopi, where the Feast of Panagia Kassopitra traditionally brings religious observances, music, food and celebrations around the picturesque harbour.
Other churches and communities around Corfu also celebrate the Assumption, so visitors may find local festivities in several villages on this date.
16–18 August – Kato Garouna Three-Day Festival
Kato Garouna hosts one of the island’s well-known multi-day summer celebrations, beginning on 16 August and continuing for three days.
Expect the atmosphere of a traditional Corfiot village panigyri, with live music, dancing, food and plenty of local participation.
22–23 August – Traditional Festival in Agrafoi
Agrafoi in northern Corfu traditionally celebrates Panagia Odigitria with a large two-day village festival around 22 and 23 August.
The exact programme and starting times can vary, so visitors planning a special trip should check the latest local announcement before travelling.
23 August – Feast of Panagia Odigitria
The celebration of Panagia Odigitria is marked in several Corfu villages, particularly Gastouri, Pelekas and Agioi Deka.
These village celebrations usually combine the religious feast with traditional music, dancing, food and a lively community atmosphere.
September Festivals in Corfu 2026
8 September – Nativity of the Virgin Mary Celebrations
Traditional celebrations and village festivals take place in several parts of Corfu on 8 September.
Places traditionally celebrating include: Afra, Sinarades, Marathias, Agios Markos and Potami in Lefkimmi.
14 September – Feast of the Holy Cross
The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is celebrated on 14 September, with religious events traditionally taking place at the Monastery of Saint John and in Sidari.
If you are staying in northern Corfu, this can be an interesting opportunity to combine a religious celebration with a visit to the surrounding area.
24 September – Vatos Village Festival
Vatos, a traditional village in central-west Corfu, holds a local celebration on 24 September.
Late-September village festivals tend to be less tourist-oriented than the major August celebrations and can offer visitors a more local atmosphere.
26 September – Feast of Saint John the Theologian
Celebrations for Saint John the Theologian traditionally take place in Karousades and Porta Remounda on 26 September.
Saint Spyridon Processions in Corfu
Saint Spyridon is the patron saint of Corfu and occupies a unique place in the religious life of the island.
Four major processions of the Saint’s relics traditionally take place each year: on Palm Sunday, Holy Saturday, 11 August and the first Sunday of November.
The processions through Corfu Town are accompanied by philharmonic bands and are among the most distinctive religious traditions on the island.
The final Saint Spyridon procession of 2026 falls on Sunday, 1 November 2026.

Traditional celebrations in Alykes Potamou, Petalia and Potamos.
12 June

29 June – Saints Peter and Paul
Celebrations traditionally take place in Kompitsi, Stroggili, Vitalades and Gaios on Paxos.
2 July – Panagia Vlacherna
Religious celebrations traditionally include a procession in Garitsa and events in Garitsa, Acharavi, Kamara and Paxos.
8 July – Feast of Saint Prokopios
Traditional festivals take place in Agios Prokopios and Kavos in southern Corfu.
13 July – Saint Spyridon Celebration
A celebration traditionally takes place in San Rocco Square in Corfu Town in honour of Saint Spyridon.
17 July – Feast of Saint Marina
Traditional celebrations take place in Benitses, Spartera and Avliotes.
20 July – Feast of Prophet Elias
Magoulades in northwest Corfu traditionally hosts a festival for the Feast of Prophet Elias.
6 August – Transfiguration of the Savior
The Feast of the Transfiguration is celebrated in several locations around Corfu, traditionally including Pontikonisi, Perivoli, Strinilas, Paliochori, Agioi Deka and Agios Matthaios.
The period from 1–6 August is also associated with pilgrimage to the summit of Mount Pantokrator, Corfu’s highest mountain.
11 August – Saint Spyridon Procession
One of Corfu’s four major annual Saint Spyridon processions takes place on 11 August in Corfu Town, commemorating the island’s deliverance from the Ottoman siege of 1716.
The procession is accompanied by Corfu’s famous philharmonic bands and attracts both residents and visitors to the historic center.
What Is a Corfu Panigyri?
A panigyri is much more than a village party. It usually begins with a religious celebration dedicated to a saint or important feast day and continues with food, music and dancing.
At many Corfu festivals you will find long communal tables, local food, wine, live Greek music and residents of all ages dancing until late in the evening.
For visitors, these celebrations can be one of the best opportunities to experience Corfu beyond the beaches and tourist resorts.
Local Tips Before You Go
• Arrive reasonably early at popular August festivals, especially if you are driving.
• Parking in small villages can become difficult during major panigyria.
• Carry some cash, as not every temporary food or drink stall accepts cards.
• Dress respectfully if the celebration includes a church service or procession.
• Festival programmes, musicians and starting times may occasionally change, even at short notice.
