Summer may get most of the attention, but September and October can be two of the best months to experience Greece. The crowds begin to thin, temperatures become more comfortable, and many destinations reveal a completely different side once the peak summer rush is over.
There is another reason, however, why more experienced travelers are looking beyond July and August — and it may completely change the way you think about when to visit Greece.
7It Is a Fantastic Time for Hiking and Road Trips
Greece is much more than beaches. Mountains, gorges, traditional villages, olive groves and spectacular coastal roads cover the country.
Early autumn is an excellent period for travelers who want to explore them. Cooler conditions make walking and hiking more comfortable, while a road trip allows visitors to combine famous attractions with villages and landscapes that many summer tourists never see.
In Corfu, for example, autumn is a wonderful time to leave the resorts behind and explore the island’s inland villages, countryside and walking trails.
