Renting a car is one of the best ways to explore Corfu, giving you the freedom to discover mountain villages, hidden beaches, viewpoints and places that public transport does not easily reach. But narrow village roads, limited lighting, steep routes and unfamiliar rental conditions can quickly create problems. Here are 10 mistakes worth avoiding before you start your Corfu road trip.

1Collecting Your Rental Car Late at Night When You Are Tired

If possible, arrange to collect your rental car during daylight hours rather than immediately after arriving on a late-night flight.

After travelling for several hours, you may already be tired, unfamiliar with the car and unsure of the roads. Driving for the first time in Corfu in darkness can make the experience unnecessarily stressful.

Collecting the car during the day also gives you enough light to inspect it properly, understand the controls and become familiar with the vehicle before heading onto unfamiliar roads.

If your flight arrives very late, consider spending the first night near Corfu Town or the airport and collecting the car the following morning.
