Renting a car is one of the best ways to explore Corfu, giving you the freedom to discover mountain villages, hidden beaches, viewpoints and places that public transport does not easily reach. But narrow village roads, limited lighting, steep routes and unfamiliar rental conditions can quickly create problems. Here are 10 mistakes worth avoiding before you start your Corfu road trip.

4Choosing a Car That Is Too Large

A large SUV may look comfortable, but bigger is definitely not always better in Corfu.

Many traditional villages have narrow streets, tight corners and buildings very close to the road. Parking spaces can also be surprisingly small, especially during July and August.

Unless you genuinely need a large vehicle, a compact or medium-sized car is usually easier to drive, manoeuvre and park around the island.

Automatic transmission can also make driving more comfortable for visitors who are not accustomed to steep roads and frequent hill starts.
