Renting a car is one of the best ways to explore Corfu, giving you the freedom to discover mountain villages, hidden beaches, viewpoints and places that public transport does not easily reach. But narrow village roads, limited lighting, steep routes and unfamiliar rental conditions can quickly create problems. Here are 10 mistakes worth avoiding before you start your Corfu road trip.

9Driving Too Fast and Underestimating Corfu’s Roads

Distances in Corfu can be misleading. A destination may look very close on the map but take considerably longer than expected because of bends, villages, summer traffic and slower vehicles.

Do not calculate your journey using kilometres alone, and never rush because your navigation app says you are running late.

Sharp bends, scooters, pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles emerging from small side roads can appear unexpectedly.

Slow down before bends, keep a safe distance and allow extra time when travelling from one side of Corfu to another, especially if you need to catch a flight or ferry.
