Summer may get most of the attention, but September and October can be two of the best months to experience Greece. The crowds begin to thin, temperatures become more comfortable, and many destinations reveal a completely different side once the peak summer rush is over.
There is another reason, however, why more experienced travelers are looking beyond July and August — and it may completely change the way you think about when to visit Greece.
4Food Lovers Arrive at a Very Interesting Time of Year
Autumn introduces visitors to another side of Greek food culture.
Grapes, figs, pomegranates and other seasonal produce appear, while grape harvests and winemaking traditions become part of life in many regions.
Later in autumn, the olive harvest begins in parts of Greece — an important annual tradition on islands such as Corfu, Crete and across the mainland.
Travel at this time of year and food becomes more than something ordered from a taverna menu; it can become part of understanding the season itself.
