Corfu is famous for its clear turquoise sea, but swimming conditions are not the same everywhere around the island. Some beaches become deep surprisingly close to shore, while others can develop stronger waves or currents when the wind increases. This is especially important on exposed parts of the west coast, although there are beaches elsewhere on the island where swimmers should also pay attention. Here are 10 Corfu beaches where it is worth checking the depth, wind and sea conditions before swimming.
6Agios Gordios
Agios Gordios is another beautiful west-coast beach where swimming conditions depend heavily on the weather.
On calm days the water can be excellent, but in some areas it becomes deep relatively quickly.
Because the beach faces west, incoming wind and swell can create larger waves as conditions change.
This is particularly noticeable when stronger weather arrives from the open Ionian.
Swimming tip: Never assume that today’s sea will behave like yesterday’s. Check the actual conditions when you arrive.
