4Standardised Aircraft Reduce Pilot-Training Costs

Most Ryanair operations are built around the Boeing 737 family. Pilots are trained and type-rated for this aircraft family instead of the airline maintaining large groups of pilots for many unrelated aircraft types.

This does not mean that pilot training is cheap or limited. Airline pilots still undergo extensive recurrent training and safety checks. However, operating a largely standardised fleet reduces duplicated training, maintenance, spare-parts and scheduling costs.

It also gives the airline greater flexibility because appropriately qualified crews can be assigned across a much larger part of its fleet.
