A flat tyre on a Greek island, a minor collision, a lost key, the wrong fuel or even an animal suddenly running into the road — rental car problems can happen when you least expect them. If something goes wrong while driving in Greece, don’t panic. Here is what tourists should do in 10 common rental car emergencies, who to call and which mistakes to avoid.
3You Lose the Key or Lock It Inside the Car
Losing a modern rental-car key can be much more expensive and complicated than people expect.
If the key is locked inside the vehicle, do not try to force open a door or window.
Call the rental company’s roadside-assistance service. Some companies can arrange access to the vehicle or provide a replacement key.
If you have lost the key completely, retrace your route before requesting a replacement. Check restaurants, beaches, hotel receptions and anywhere you stopped during the day.
Remember that lost keys, locked-in keys and replacement-key delivery may not be included in standard roadside-assistance coverage.
When travelling with another person, it can also be useful to avoid keeping the car key and every other important item — phone, wallet and accommodation key — in the same bag.
