Corfu deserves a large, modern veterinary hospital combined with a permanent sanctuary for abandoned dogs and cats.
We imagine a purpose-built complex surrounded by countryside, with 24-hour veterinary facilities, operating rooms, rehabilitation areas, quarantine facilities, adoption areas and large shaded outdoor spaces where animals could exercise safely.
And yes, we would even include a swimming pool for dogs. Hydrotherapy can be useful for rehabilitation, while healthy animals would have somewhere to exercise and cool down rather than spending most of their lives inside cages.
The centre could also run adoption programmes, educational visits, sterilisation campaigns and emergency veterinary services for injured stray animals from across the island.
