Is Corfu worth visiting in October? The short answer is yes – but choosing the right dates can make a big difference. The sea can still be warm enough for swimming, the beaches are wonderfully quiet, accommodation prices can drop dramatically and Corfu Town remains lively, but the weather becomes increasingly unpredictable and seasonal businesses gradually begin closing as the month progresses.
I live in Corfu, and if someone asked me how late I would personally recommend coming for an October holiday that still feels reasonably close to summer, my answer would be simple: try to come by around 15 October. That does not mean Corfu suddenly becomes a bad destination after the middle of the month. Late October can actually be wonderful for walking, photography, traditional food, villages and sightseeing without the summer crowds. You simply need to come with different expectations.
Is Corfu Worth Visiting in October?
From 1 to around 15 October: yes, I would definitely consider it. You can still have warm sunny days, swim in the sea, find plenty of restaurants open and enjoy Corfu without the crowds of July and August.
From around 16 to 31 October: I would recommend Corfu more for sightseeing, Corfu Town, walking, food, villages and exploring the island. Swimming is still possible, but the weather becomes less reliable and more seasonal businesses start closing. If this is your first visit to Corfu and beaches and swimming are important to you, the first half of October would be my choice.
Corfu Weather in October 2026
As I write this in September 2026, it is still too early for any trustworthy day-by-day forecast for the entire month of October. Long-range forecasts several weeks in advance should always be treated cautiously, so historical weather data gives us a much better idea of what visitors should realistically expect.
Typical October conditions in Corfu include an average temperature of around 18–19°C, average daytime highs of around 23°C, cooler evenings and nights, and around 11 or 12 days with some measurable rainfall during an average October. Rainfall also increases noticeably compared with the summer months.
What these averages cannot show is just how quickly the weather can change. You might have a beautiful sunny day of 23°C or 24°C, followed by thunderstorms and heavy rain the next day.
What October Rain Is Really Like in Corfu
Having lived here, I think this is something that many travel guides do not explain properly. Rain in Corfu in October does not necessarily mean that your entire holiday will be wet. Quite often we get heavy rain during the night, sometimes for several hours, and by the following morning the sky can already be clearing.
There are nights when it can rain extremely heavily for much of the night and you wake up the next morning to blue sky. However, the opposite can also happen. Occasionally a weather system settles over the Ionian Sea and we can have very heavy rain for most or even all of the day.
This is why flexibility is essential during an October holiday. I would never plan seven consecutive beach days. Keep a few alternatives ready for the days when Corfu decides to remind you why the island is so green.
What Was October 2025 Like?
October 2025 was a good example of how varied autumn weather in Corfu can be. There were pleasant, warm periods suitable for sightseeing and even swimming, but there were also unsettled periods with rain and thunderstorms.
Traveller discussions about Corfu during late September and October describe exactly this mixture: sunshine and warm conditions on some days, strong overnight rain on others, quieter beaches and increasingly fewer tourist businesses operating as the month progressed.
Visitors who regularly travel around the middle of October often report having very good weather, but they also mention one important difference from summer: resorts become noticeably quieter and nightlife is much more limited. The safest way to think about October is therefore not “good weather” or “bad weather”. You can experience both within the same week.
Can You Swim in Corfu in October?
Yes – particularly during the first half of the month. The Ionian Sea has spent the entire summer warming up, so the water cools much more slowly than the air. Sea temperatures around Corfu in October are commonly around 22–23°C, which many people still find perfectly comfortable for swimming.
On a calm sunny day in early October, swimming can be excellent. The bigger problem later in the month is often not the water temperature itself but the combination of wind, cooler air, clouds and rougher seas.
A 22°C sea under sunshine with an air temperature of 24°C feels completely different from exactly the same sea on a windy, cloudy 17°C afternoon. If swimming is one of your main reasons for visiting Corfu, I would therefore strongly favour 1–15 October.
What Are the Beaches Like in October?
This is one of my favourite things about October. Beaches that can be extremely crowded in August can suddenly feel almost empty, and even some of Corfu’s most famous beaches may have only a small number of visitors.
There is a trade-off, though. As visitor numbers fall, sunbed operators, beach bars, boat rentals and water sports centres gradually begin shutting down, particularly after the middle of the month.
If a specific beach bar, restaurant or boat company is important to your plans, contact them before travelling rather than assuming their online opening hours are still accurate.
October Can Be One of the Cheapest Months to Stay in Corfu
There is another very good reason to consider Corfu in October: accommodation can be dramatically cheaper than during the summer. Once the peak season ends and visitor numbers begin to fall, hotels, apartments and studios often reduce their prices significantly in order to fill their remaining rooms before winter.
Depending on the dates, location, availability and how you book, it can sometimes be possible to find simple studios or apartments for around €30 per night. Of course, €30 accommodation is not guaranteed everywhere, but the difference compared with July and August can be enormous.
Hotels may also introduce reduced October rates, free breakfast, meal-plan upgrades, longer-stay discounts or other end-of-season offers. For couples, solo travellers and visitors who want to spend a week or longer in Corfu, October can therefore offer excellent value.
Look Out for October and End-of-Season Deals
Accommodation is not the only thing that can become cheaper. With fewer visitors on the island, some businesses introduce special offers and end-of-season deals to attract customers before winter.
• Reduced hotel, apartment and studio prices
• Special rates for longer stays
• Free breakfast or meal-plan upgrades
• Restaurant set menus and food offers
• Happy-hour drinks or bar promotions
• Better-value car rental rates
• Reduced prices on some excursions and activities that are still operating
Not every business discounts its prices, of course, but October visitors often have more opportunities to find good value than during the peak summer season. My local tip: if you find a small hotel, apartment, restaurant or activity you like, it can be worth contacting the business directly and asking whether they have an October or last-minute offer.
Can an October Corfu Holiday Be Much Cheaper Than Summer?
Absolutely. A visitor who is flexible with dates can potentially save a significant amount by travelling in October instead of July or August. You may spend considerably less on accommodation and sometimes find offers on food, car rentals and activities as well.
That means you can use the money you save to stay a few extra nights, rent a car, eat out more often or explore more of the island. For budget-conscious travellers, this is another reason why I particularly like the first two weeks of October: you can benefit from much lower shoulder-season prices while still having a better chance of finding restaurants, beach businesses and tourist services open.
Top Things to Do in Corfu in October
October is not only about finding a beach between rain showers. In some ways, it is one of the best months of the year for actually exploring the island.
Explore Corfu Town without the summer crowds. Walking around the UNESCO-listed historic centre is far more comfortable once the intense summer heat disappears. Wander through the kantounia, walk around Spianada, explore the Old Fortress and spend time discovering streets that many summer visitors rush past.
Early morning is particularly beautiful. If you enjoy photography, walk around Garitsa, Spianada or the Old Fortress area around sunrise before the town becomes busy.
Walk part of the Corfu Trail. Autumn temperatures are much better suited to hiking than July or August. The Corfu Trail crosses approximately 180 kilometres of the island from south to north through olive groves, villages, beaches, valleys and mountain landscapes.
You certainly do not need to walk the entire trail. Choose one section and turn it into a half-day or full-day excursion. October also brings greener scenery after the first autumn rains, but always check the weather before setting out and avoid remote sections during thunderstorms or immediately after exceptionally heavy rainfall.
Drive or hike towards Mount Pantokrator. At approximately 906 metres, Pantokrator is the highest mountain on Corfu. On a clear autumn day the views are superb, extending across much of Corfu and towards the nearby Albanian coastline.
October is often much more comfortable for exploring this part of northern Corfu than the hottest weeks of summer. Again, choose a clear day. Pantokrator is not where I would personally head when heavy rain, strong wind or thunderstorms are forecast.
Experience the beginning of the olive harvest. October is also when another side of Corfu begins to appear. Some producers begin harvesting early green olives from late September or early October, while the broader harvesting season becomes increasingly active from late October into November and December.
By the second half of October you may see families and producers working in olive groves, placing nets beneath the trees and collecting olives destined for local olive mills. It is also an excellent time to visit an olive oil producer, learn about Corfu’s traditional olive-growing culture and taste local extra virgin olive oil.
October 28 – Ohi Day in Corfu
If you are in Corfu on 28 October, you will experience one of Greece’s most important national holidays: Ohi Day. The day commemorates Greece’s rejection of the Italian ultimatum in 1940 and is celebrated throughout the country.
In Corfu you can expect Greek flags, commemorative events and parades, particularly in Corfu Town. Many banks, public services and ordinary shops will be closed because it is a national holiday, while cafés, restaurants and tavernas generally operate depending on the area.
There is also an important bonus for visitors: 28 October is an official free-admission day for Greek state archaeological sites and museums. This can make it an excellent day to combine the parade and atmosphere in Corfu Town with a museum visit. Always check the day’s exact opening arrangements shortly before visiting.
What Seasonal Fruit Can You Eat in Corfu in October?
Another small pleasure of visiting Corfu in autumn is seeing how the fruit available in local shops changes with the season. September is traditionally a good month for grapes, figs, apples and prickly pears.
During October look out for:
• Apples
• Pears
• Grapes, particularly during the earlier part of the month
• Pomegranates
• Quinces
• Persimmons
If you are staying somewhere with a good local greengrocer, go inside rather than buying everything from a large supermarket. You will get a much better idea of what local families are actually buying and eating at that time of year.
Are There Still Direct Flights to Corfu in October 2026?
Yes. Many international flights continue during October, although airlines gradually finish their seasonal Corfu schedules at different points during the month. This is important because there is no single “last international flight from Corfu”.
Some seasonal European routes finish in early or mid-October, while others continue towards the end of October or even into the beginning of November. Corfu Airport itself does not normally close for winter.
Flights to Athens continue, meaning Corfu remains connected with the wider international network via Athens after most summer routes finish. My advice: always check your return flight before booking the outward flight, especially if your holiday extends into the final week of October.
Do not assume that because an airline flies you directly to Corfu at the beginning of October it will still operate exactly the same route at the end of the month.
Important Corfu Airport Runway Closure in January 2027
This does not affect October 2026 holidays, but it is worth knowing if you are planning another winter visit. Fraport Greece officially announced in September 2026 that runway operations at Corfu International Airport will be suspended from 20 January until 28 January 2027 while reconstruction and safety improvement works are carried out.
This means normal passenger aircraft will not be able to take off or land during that period. Emergency helicopter operations, including medical, search-and-rescue and other essential flights, will remain possible, while airport terminal services will continue to be available.
Corfu Airport is normally a year-round airport, but anyone considering travel during 20–28 January 2027 should take this temporary runway closure into account.
Do Cruise Ships Still Come to Corfu in October?
Absolutely. One mistake visitors sometimes make is assuming that Corfu’s cruise season ends when the main beach resorts begin shutting down. It doesn’t.
The Corfu Port Authority’s 2026 cruise programme includes numerous cruise ship arrivals throughout October, with ships continuing to arrive during the final days of the month. More importantly, October is not the end of cruising in Corfu, as cruise ship calls also continue during November and later in the year.
This creates an interesting contrast. You can sometimes walk through a busy Corfu Town filled with cruise passengers while a small seaside resort elsewhere on the island already feels almost completely closed for winter. If you prefer exploring Corfu Town when it is quieter, checking the day’s cruise schedule before visiting can therefore be useful.
What Remains Open in Corfu in October?
This depends enormously on where you are staying. Corfu Town remains alive all year. Local people live and work here, so supermarkets, bakeries, cafés, pharmacies, shops and many restaurants remain open regardless of the tourist season.
This is why the town becomes increasingly attractive as a base later in October. Several important cultural attractions also continue operating during October, including the Museum of Asian Art, the Archaeological Museum of Corfu, the Banknote Museum and the historic Patounis Soap Factory.
Opening days and hours can change outside peak season, so I always recommend checking directly before making a special journey.
What Happens in the Beach Resorts?
This is where October changes quickly. During the first week and often into the second week of October, many hotels, restaurants, bars and tourist services in the larger resorts remain open.
After approximately the middle of the month, closures become much more noticeable. Beach bars, water sports operators, boat rentals, excursion offices, seasonal souvenir shops and businesses relying almost entirely on summer tourists are generally among the first to close.
This is another reason why I personally use around 15 October as an informal dividing line. It is not an official end-of-season date and Corfu certainly does not suddenly close on 16 October. It is simply the point when I would start changing both my expectations and where I would choose to stay.
Where Should You Stay in Corfu in October?
Choosing the right location matters much more in October than it does in July or August. For the first half of October, areas I would personally consider include Sidari, Dassia, Benitses, Perama, Gouvia, Kontokali and Ipsos.
Sidari can still be an attractive option during the earlier part of October if you want to stay in northern Corfu, but it is a strongly seasonal resort. I would be more cautious about booking it towards the very end of the month unless I had checked what remained open.
Dassia and Ipsos are useful because they are relatively close to Corfu Town while still giving you easy access to the northeast of the island. Gouvia and Kontokali are particularly practical October bases because you remain close to Corfu Town and year-round residential areas.
Benitses is another option I like, particularly during the first half of the month, while Perama is convenient if easy access to Corfu Town and the airport is more important to you than staying in a large resort.
After approximately 15 October, however, I would increasingly recommend staying in Corfu Town or somewhere close to it. Good choices include Garitsa, Kanoni, Alepou, Perama, Kontokali and other nearby residential areas.
Garitsa is particularly convenient because you can walk into the historic centre. Kanoni, Alepou, Perama, Kontokali, Gouvia, Dassia and Ipsos also benefit from relatively easy bus access to Corfu Town.
Staying near Corfu Town gives you far more options if it rains: museums, shops, restaurants, cafés and year-round services are close by. If you are travelling without a car, this becomes even more important.
What to Do in Corfu Town When It Rains
Rain does not have to mean losing an entire holiday day, especially if you are based in or near Corfu Town. You can visit the Museum of Asian Art inside the Palace of St Michael and St George, explore the Archaeological Museum or discover the smaller Banknote Museum in the historic centre.
Another interesting option is Patounis Soap Factory, where you can discover a traditional Corfiot business very different from a conventional museum. You can also visit Saint Spyridon Church, one of the most important places in Corfu Town whatever the weather.
If the rain is lighter, walk beneath the Liston arcades, stop for coffee and watch the weather change over Spianada. A rainy October afternoon is also an excellent excuse to sit down for a long lunch and try pastitsada, sofrito or another traditional Corfiot dish.

What to Do Around the Island When It Rains
If the weather is simply cloudy or there are occasional showers, you can still explore much of the island. Visit an olive oil museum or producer, take a scenic drive through traditional villages or use the softer autumn light for photography.
You can also visit Paleokastritsa. Even without swimming, the scenery remains beautiful, while indoor attractions may provide an alternative if they are still operating for the season.
Wine, olive oil and local food tastings are another good choice. These experiences can actually be more enjoyable in October than during the hottest weeks of summer, when most visitors spend almost every day on the beach.
What If It Rains Heavily All Day?
There is a difference between normal October showers and a genuinely severe Corfu rainstorm. If heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast across the whole island, I would not spend the day driving from north to south trying to find sunshine.
Stay around Corfu Town, visit museums, enjoy a proper lunch, browse the shops and save the mountain roads and beaches for another day. During very heavy rain, take particular care on narrow roads, steep village roads and low-lying areas where water can accumulate quickly.
Do not drive through deep standing water simply because another vehicle has done it.
Should You Rent a Car in October?
A car can be extremely useful in October because it gives you the freedom to change plans according to the weather. If one coast is windy or rainy, you may be able to explore villages or move towards another part of the island instead.
However, if you stay in Corfu Town, Garitsa, Kanoni, Alepou, Perama, Kontokali, Gouvia, Dassia or Ipsos, local buses can also make many journeys straightforward.

What Should You Pack for Corfu in October?
Do not pack for October as though you were arriving in August. Bring your swimwear because there is a very good chance you will use it, especially during the first half of the month, but also prepare for cooler and wetter weather.
• A lightweight waterproof jacket
• Comfortable closed shoes with good grip
• A few layers for cooler evenings
• Lightweight clothes for warm sunny afternoons
• A small umbrella if you like, although a waterproof jacket can be more practical when rain is combined with wind
I would also pay a little more attention to the accommodation itself. In August you may hardly spend any time inside your room, but in October having a comfortable indoor space becomes much more valuable if you happen to get a wet afternoon.
Who Will Love Corfu in October?
October is particularly good for visitors who enjoy quiet beaches, lower accommodation prices, walking, hiking, photography, traditional villages, local food, autumn produce and discovering Corfu Town without peak-season crowds.
It is also a very good month for travellers who prefer a slower pace and want to explore more of the island by car rather than spending every day on a sunbed.
October is less suitable for anyone expecting guaranteed sunshine every day, busy nightlife, water sports operating everywhere or every seasonal restaurant and beach bar to remain open.
My Recommendation: When Should You Come?
If you ask me for the sweet spot, I would choose 1–15 October. For me, this usually gives the best balance between warm sea temperatures, possible beach days, restaurants and tourism businesses still operating, international flights, lower accommodation prices and an island that is already considerably quieter than during summer.
You can sometimes find simple studios from around €30 per night, enjoy much quieter beaches and still have enough tourism infrastructure operating to feel that the season has not completely finished.
From 16–31 October, I would still happily visit Corfu, but I would change the type of holiday I was expecting. I would probably stay in or close to Corfu Town, keep my itinerary flexible and concentrate more on food, villages, walking, museums and discovering the island rather than expecting a conventional beach holiday.
Final Verdict: Is Corfu Worth Visiting in October 2026?
Yes – and for the right traveller, October can offer some of the best value of the entire year. If your priority is swimming and you still want some feeling of summer, I personally recommend trying to arrive no later than around 15 October.
During the first half of the month you can potentially combine warm sea temperatures, sunny beach days, far fewer tourists and significantly lower accommodation prices. If you come later, Corfu can still be beautiful. Just come for autumn Corfu rather than expecting August with fewer tourists.
The island becomes quieter, greener and in many ways more authentic. You may swim one day, watch a spectacular thunderstorm the next, walk through an olive grove the day after that and spend an afternoon eating pastitsada in Corfu Town while the rain falls outside.
For some travellers, October will never replace July or August. For others, the combination of fewer crowds, lower prices, warm sea, local food and a slower pace is exactly what makes it one of the most interesting months to discover Corfu.
