8Underestimating Distances and Journey Times
Corfu may look relatively small on a map, but travelling from one side of the island to another can consume a large part of the day. Mountainous roads, villages, traffic and slow-moving vehicles make journey times difficult to predict.
Visitors sometimes plan Paleokastritsa, Kassiopi, Corfu Town and a southern beach on the same day. Although this may be technically possible, much of the holiday is then spent inside a car.
How to improve the experience: Divide Corfu into geographical areas. Explore the northwest on one day, the northeast on another and Corfu Town separately. Add at least 30–50% to your expected driving time during the busiest weeks.
My advice is to prioritise quality over quantity. Visiting fewer places at a relaxed pace will usually create better memories than racing across the island simply to take photographs.
