3Chlomos – Venetian Colours Above Southern Corfu
Best for: Venetian-style houses, colourful façades, narrow alleys and panoramic views.
Now we reach my top three.
Chlomos is one of the oldest traditional settlements in southern Corfu and one of my favourite places for photographing village architecture.
Its narrow passages, steep stairways and houses painted in shades of ochre, pink and terracotta give the village a completely different atmosphere from northern Corfu.
Where does the name Chlomos come from?
There are several local theories. One connects the name with flomos, a plant found in the surrounding area. Another links it with the Greek word chlomos, meaning pale. Neither explanation is proven beyond doubt.
