8Kynopiastes – Traditional Houses Close to Corfu Town
Best for: old stone houses, narrow lanes, local traditions and an easy trip from Corfu Town.
Kynopiastes is surprisingly close to Corfu Town, yet its older centre still preserves the atmosphere of a traditional Corfiot village.
Walk through its narrow lanes and you will find old houses, stone details, balconies and buildings that developed over several generations.
Where does the name Kynopiastes come from?
One older explanation connected the name with kynes, the ancient Greek word for dogs. Another theory associates it with the wild sea squill, traditionally known locally as a “dog onion”.

Population: approximately 980 residents.
Location: central Corfu.
From Corfu Town: approximately 8–10 km.
Best for: traditional architecture and an easy half-day excursion.
